Code 10 driving jobs can be found in a range of industries including cupboard manufacturing companies, retail distribution and logistics companies. Drivers are required to transport goods from one location to another. Responsibilities may include running errands and completing paper work. Although experience may be required for some positions, entry-level positions are available.
Before applying for a job, it is necessary to understand what licence is required for the position. A Professional Driver’s License, previously known as a Public Driving Permit, is required for drivers who are operating a motor vehicle for profit. This includes taxi drivers as well as delivery men. If a vehicle is used to carry more than eleven passengers, the driver must have a PrDP. This is also required for the drivers of goods vehicles.
A Code 8 license is required to drive a Light Motor Vehicle which doesn’t exceed 3500 kgs. Drivers with this license are permitted to tow a trailer that has a GMV more than 750 kgs. Applicants for this license must be older than 18 years.
Code 10 and Code 14 driving licences both apply to operating Heavy Motor vehicles. Under the new licence codes these fall under the Code C and E categories. Code C1 is required to operate vehicles which are between 3 500 kgs and 16 000 kgs. Drivers with this licence can also operate code B vehicles. A Code EC license is required for vehicles that have a GVM that is more than 16 000 kilograms. Drivers with this license are also permitted to operate vehicles that fall into the B, C1, C, EB or EC1 categories.
