They communicate with the investors in the project to make sure it is running according to plan.
Responsibilities include devising schedules and implementing them to meet project deadlines. Construction managers must maintain a high standard of safety and make sure that regulations are adhered to. Other duties are ordering building supplies, organizing storage and arranging equipment. This position requires employees to have computer skills in order to use management software programs.
Construction managers must be highly skilled and a relevant qualification is beneficial for this position. Certificates, diplomas and degree courses are available in construction management. Once the certified course is completed and the graduate has obtained the necessary work experience, they can apply to register with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions. Subjects cover economics, law, maintenance and research. Full time one year courses or part time two year courses are offered.
Construction management requires applicants to have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to give instructions clearly and they are responsible for ensuring that staff members are completing tasks efficiently. Applicants should have experience in the industry and problem solving capabilities as well as the ability to think ahead is essential.
