Advice on how to become a Digital Copy Editor

digitaleditorSo, you may be asking yourself, “What is a Digital Copy Editor?”. Well, in a nutshell, a Digital Copy Editor practices ‘quality control’ on all online marketing content of an organisation. He/she edits and proof reads all internal and external digital marketing copy, in terms of spelling, grammar, formatting, style, factual accuracy and best marketing practice.

Copy that gets edited by a Digital Copy Editor includes Social Media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Google+), descriptions of YouTube videos, marketing e-mails, photo descriptions on Instagram, blog posts, PR and SEO articles.

If you have a love for all things digital and marketing, have a keen understanding of the digital sphere, pay great attention to detail, have a passion for reading and writing and are a good copy writer this might just be the job for you.

So, how do you become a Digital Copy Editor?

You need to have a degree in marketing communications / media. Doing short courses in Digital Marketing or Editing will also be beneficial if you want to work in this field. This is a fairly new field in the job sphere, so the rules are still being made as it develops.
