3 useful tips on how to become a front-end developer

So, you might be asking yourself, “What’s a front-end developer?”. Well, according to Technopedia “A front-end developer is a type of computer programmer that codes and creates the visual front-end elements of a software, application or website. They create computing components / features that are directly viewable and accessible by the end user or client. A front-end developer is also known as a client end developer, HTMLer and front-end coder.”

So what will you be doing when you’re a front-end developer? According to the After College blog “You’ll spend some time talking with the folks in design and your project leader or manager. There’s a good chance you’ll be asked to talk with accounts people to estimate the time it’ll take you to complete a project (so they can figure out how much it’ll cost). But you’ll definitely spend the majority of your time sitting in front of your computer, coding. ”

Some of you might be interested in doing this, but you may be clueless about what you need to do become a front-end developer. So today I’m giving you 3 useful tips on how to become one:

1. Study a course in Multimedia Design: This is important if you want to become a front-end developer. Multimedia Design consists of a bunch of different areas including graphics, video, web, etc. It’s basically pretty much everything to do with design that you can possibly think of. When you study a course in this field you’ll learn how to use programs like Adobe Photoshop and 3D Studio Max (depending on your field of specialization).

2. School yourself in HMTL, CSS, Javascript and Sitebuild: You can fork out some money and do courses for each of these design aspects, but since we live in the digital age information and courses are widely available on the world wide web. It might take you longer than doing a course, but it will be worthwhile in the end.

3. Love what you do and keep an eye on industry trends: So, you’ve done your course in Multimedia Design and you’ve schooled yourself in all of the design aspects mentioned in the second tip. What now? Well, to be good at what you do you need to stay on top with what’s going down in the front-end development industry, follow @WebDesignMag on Twitter.
