10 tips for a better work-life balance
Struggling to balance your work life with your personal life? Juggling your social life, family and work can be tough. Making time for your passions is also important. Whether its salsa dancing or gardening, you should have some time in your life to do what you love. While getting the right work life balance can be challenging, there are plenty of ways to make sure that you have time for both work and play. Take a look at our work life balance tips:
1. Find a job that you love
If you are passionate about your job, it is more likely that you will feel balanced. A job that allows you to spend your days doing what you love is both enjoyable and satisfying.
2. Disconnect from technology
Once your working day is over, switch off your email notifications and turn your phone onto silent. Without disruptions and distractions you can spend quality time with the people who matter most to you. Even if it’s only for a few hours make sure that you spend some time without technology.
3. Reduce work talk after hours
Although chatting about work with friends and family is a great way to let off steam, make sure that all your conversations don’t focus on this topic.
4. Plan relaxing activities
Spending time in nature is an important part of having a balanced life. Whether you want to go for a stroll in the park or do something more strenuous like hiking, spending time in nature is a great way to relax and better your work life balance.
5. Set your boundaries
If you are always saying “Yes” to other people, you will be left with no time for yourself. Although helping others out is important, you also need to keep some time aside to unwind.
6. Reduce guilt
Feelings of guilt can reduce your energy levels and add to feelings of stress and anxiety. Make sure your life isn’t full of activities that you are doing out of obligation.
7. Practice gratitude
Spend a little time each day being thankful for the important people in your life. Taking time out to appreciate what you have will help you to feel more satisfied with your life. If you are clear about what is important to you, it is easier to focus your time and attention accordingly.
8. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Pick your battles and focus on what is important to you. If your house is not perfectly tidy, it is not the end of the world. Spend more time enjoying life than concentrating on things that you can’t control.
9. Prioritise
Check that what you spend your time on is important to you. If you enjoy a night out with your friends make sure that you get time to go out with them. If doing fun activities with your children brings a smile to your face, make sure that you have plenty of time to spend with them after work.
10. Cultivate fun hobbies
Go for a salsa dancing class, learn how to garden or start a DIY project. Try lots of different activities to find one that leaves you reenergised and ready to face all of the challenges that life brings.
It is important to have a good work life balance so that you don’t burn out. Making time for friends and family lays the foundation for healthy relationships.
